Japanese, orchid loving people

We, Japanese love to grow orchid. Ienari Tokugawa, the 11^th ‘Shogun’ loved ‘Fukiran’, Neofinetia falcata. Since old age until now, Japanese glow Den. moniliforme, Calanthe discolor, and so on.

There many people growing many kinds of orchids of world wide. In large city they organize orchid clubs. International orchid contests and fairs are held every year in Tokyo, Nagoya, Kobe, Fukuoka, Fukushima, and Okayama.

Publication for orchid have good activity. For example, NHK, Japan broadcast association, published horticultural books. Dr. Kouji Karasawa, Dr. Genjirou Ishida, and Mr. Kouichi Ejiri are famous writers and produced many nice books of orchid.

 

Japan, orchid living island

There more than 200 kinds of natural orchid species live in Japan. The number of 200 exceeds that in US, of 25 times area of Japan.

Our beautiful country provide warm climate, plenty of rain, and wind. These conditions are suitable for orchid growing.

My orchid table shows the price at I purchased the orchids. The average is only 5$. Ordinal price of orchid is about $5 to $100.There are many chance to buy orchids. (In Japan, the prices of fundamental goods are, $2 for 1L of milk, $1.5 for 10 eggs, $5 for standard lunch, $3 for big Mac)
